MONDAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY
Luke 20,22 |
|
Holy Week |
For the next three days the chief priests and scribes
watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch
Him in some statement, so as to deliver Him up to the rule and the authority of the
governor. And they were unable
to catch Him in a saying in the
presence of the people; and marveling at His answer, they became
silent.
Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.
And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for
they were afraid of the people.
And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the
twelve. And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officiers how he might
betray Him to them. And they were delighted, and agreed to give him money.
And he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from
the multitude.

Then came the day of Unleavened
Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
And He sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may
eat it."
And they said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare it?"
And He said to them, "Behold, when you entered the city, a man will meet you carrying
a pitcher of water, follow him into the house that he enters.
"And you shall say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where
is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'
"And he will show you a large, furnished, upper room; prepare it there."
And they departed and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the
Passover.
And when the hour had come He sat at the
table, the apostles with Him.
Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that His hour was come that He
should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own which were in the
world, He loved them to the end.
And He said to them, "I have
earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall
never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God."
And having taken a cup, when He had given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it
among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the wine from now on
until the kingdom of God comes." And He took bread, and gave thanks, and broke
it, and gave unto them, saying, This is My body which is given for you: this do in
remembrance of Me.
"Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my
blood, which is shed for you. " But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth
Me is with Me on the table.
"And truly the Son of man goes, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom
He is betrayed!"
And they began to discuss among themselves, which of them it might be who was going to do
this thing.
Now close to Jesus at the table was one disciple whom He loved.
Simon Peter therefore gestured to him, and said to
him,"Tell us who it is of whom He is peaking." Then he leaning toward Jesus
asked him," Lord, who is it?"
Jesus therefore answered, "That is the one for whom I shall dip the moresl and give
it to him."And when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas Iscariot.
And after the morsel, Satan then entered into
him. Jesus therefore said to him, "What you do, do quickly." Now no man at the
table knew for what purpose he said this to him.
For
some were supposing, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him,
"Buy the things we have need of for the feast"; or, that he should give
something to the poor.
After Judas received the morsel went out immediately; and it was night.
And there arose also a dispute among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
And He said unto them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that
exercise authority upon them are called 'Benefactors. '
"But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the
youngest, and the leader as a servant.
"For who is greater, he that sit at meat, or he that serve? Is not he that sit at
meat? But I am among you as the one who serve.

"And you are those who have stood by Me in My trials;
and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you that you may eat and drink at
My table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
"And the Lord said, Peter, Peter, behold, Satan has
desired to have you, that he may sift you like wheat but I have prayed for you, that your
faith may not fail;: and when you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your
brothers."
And Peter said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison, and to
death.
And He said, I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day, until you have denied
three times that you know Me.
And He came out, and proceeded, as he was his custom to the Mount of Olives to a place
called Gethsemane; and His disciples also followed Him.
And when He was at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter not into
temptation."
And He withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and kneeled down, and began to pray,
saying, "Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me: yet not My willl, but
Thine will be done."
|
Now
an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. And being in
agony He praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of
blood, falling down to the ground.
And when He rose up from prayer, and He came to His disciples and found them sleeping from
sorrow and said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray, that you may not enter
into temptation."While He was still speaking, behold, a
multitude came, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceeding them, and
he approached Jesus to kiss Him.
Now Judas also, who
was betraying Him, knew the place; for Jesus had often met there with His disciples.
Judas the, having received the Roman cohort, and the
officers from the chief priests and the Pharisses, came there with lanterns and torches
and weapons.
Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal,
saying, "Whomever I shall kiss. He is the one; seize Him, and lead Him away under
guard."
But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you
betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
And when those who were around Him saw what going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall
we strike with the sword?"
And a certain one of them struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
And Jesus answered and said, "Stop! No more of this.". And He touched his ear,
and healed him.
|
Then Jesus said to the chief
priests, and officiers of the temple, and the elders who had come against Him, "Have
you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber?
" While I was with you daily in the temple, you this hour and the power of darkness
are yours."
And having arrested Him, they led Him away, and brought Him into the high priest's house;
but Peter followed at a distance.
And after they had kindled a fire in the middle of the
courtyard and he sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. But a certain
sevant-girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, and looking intently at him, said, This man
was with Him too.
And he denied it, saying, Woman, I do not know Him.
And after a little while another saw him, and said, "You are one of them too!"
But Peter said," Man, I am not!"
And after about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, "Cetrainly
this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilaean too."
And Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about.". And
immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how
He had told him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times."
...And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
